DIANA V - Sandy Island

The Diana V, stranded just off Sandy Island, isn't a dive site for going deep. It’s a snorkel site, and a cracking good one at that. This old landing craft, just inches below the surface, is a perfect place to spend an hour or two between Anguilla’s deeper dives. We love seeing the sun dapple through the water, illuminating schools of tiny baitfish that shimmer around the twisted metal. You’ll fin along the deck, maybe spotting a barracuda hanging motionless near the wheelhouse, or a juvenile drum darting into a crevice. The hull, encrusted with colourful sponges and soft corals, has become a nursery for gobies and damselfish. It’s an easy, relaxing drift over history, a gentle reminder that even shallow water can hold plenty of interest. Our pick? Go early, before the daytrippers arrive, when the light is soft and the water is still.
