Lucy's Barge (Wreck) - Sandy Island

Lucy's Barge is one of those easy-going wreck dives that just puts a smile on your face. It's only 18 metres deep, a perfect depth for an extended bottom time, making it our pick for a relaxing afternoon dive. This isn't some grand ocean liner, but a modest, flat-bottomed barge, resting intact on a sandy seabed. We love drifting along the length of it, poking around the open holds where schooling grunt and snapper congregate. Look closely at the deck for the resident scorpionfish, masters of camouflage, and don't miss the small morays peeking from every crevice. We’ve even spotted a curious turtle munching on algae growing on the hull more than once. The ambient light at this depth means you get good colours without much effort, even on a slightly overcast day. It’s an ideal spot for newer wreck divers, or anyone who just wants a chilled-out dive with plenty of photographic opportunities.
