MIRABELLE - Aruba Leeward Coast

The Mirabelle isn't your typical deep, dark wreck dive. We're talking about a wreck barely five metres down, right off the coast. This old motor vessel, beached after hitting an obstacle back in '84, now lies in plain sight, its superstructure breaking the surface. It’s perfect for those lazy afternoon dives, or even a snorkel if you’re just looking for a float. What makes it special for us is how accessible it is. You can practically reach out and touch it from the shore. Inside the shallower parts of the hull, we’ve found juvenile barracuda lurking in the shadows, and parrotfish grazing on the algae coating the metal. Visibility here often hits 20 metres, sometimes more, especially on a calm morning, letting the sunlight pour over the entire wreck. You’ll see big schools of sergeant majors darting in and out of the rusted metal, and the occasional turtle gliding past the bow. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, forgiving and full of light, without any of the usual pressure.
