Andrea II - Klein Bonaire

Andrea II isn't your typical Caribbean wreck dive. We’re talking about a tugboat, sunk deliberately in 1989, and what a transformation it’s undergone. The wreck sits upright, remarkably intact, at about 27 meters. It’s got an almost ghost-like quality, especially on an overcast day, with the light filtering through the water and bouncing off the structure. We love swimming through the wheelhouse; it’s open enough not to feel confining, but you still get that thrill of penetration. The big draw for us here, beyond the wreck itself, is the sheer density of life that has claimed it. Finger Coral grows in thick clumps on the deck, and you’ll spot Apricot Bass darting in and out of the crevices. Look closer and you’ll find colonies of Common Wiry Feather Hydroids swaying gently, and we’ve had some cracking encounters with Cherub Pygmy Angelfish here, tucked into shadowy corners. Keep an eye on the sandy patches nearby too; we’ve seen Blackberry Drupes and Night Dove Snails slowly making their way across the substrate. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration rather than rushing through, perfect for those who appreciate history and the way the ocean reclaims its own.

Wreck History - Andrea II

Vessel Type
barge
Cause
scuttled

While Andrea I and Andrea II are renowned as two of Bonaire's most beautiful and vibrant reef dives, Andrea II holds a special point of interest for wreck lovers. The site is home to a small vessel, likely a barge or small boat, that was intentionally scuttled to create an artificial reef. Lying on a sandy patch adjacent to the main reef, the wreck itself is small and easily circumnavigated. Its true value is as a magnet for marine life. Divers can expect to find eels hiding in its crevices, colorful reef fish schooling around its structure, and a variety of corals and sponges that have made its metal hull their home. The easy conditions and excellent visibility typical of Klein Bonaire make this a perfect dive for all levels, combining the beauty of a pristine reef with the fun of exploring a small, photogenic wreck.
