Deep Blue, Carriacou - Carriacou

House Reef East is an absolute treat, especially if you’ve got a keen eye and aren’t afraid to take things slow. We’ve spent hours here, often just puttering around at 5 to 10 metres, which is where all the good stuff lives. The visibility can be a bit hit or miss, usually around 9 metres, so we always plan our dives for an incoming tide if we can, it just makes things clearer. This is a macro lover's dream. Forget racing around; this site demands a magnifying glass and a deliberate pace. What makes House Reef East a standout for us? It’s the sheer density of tiny, intricate life. We’ve spotted countless Finespot Eviotas peering out from the coral, and the Christmas Blennies are always a joy to find. Look closely on the branch and staghorn corals and you might catch a Brown-banded Pipefish mimicking a tiny twig. The coral itself is a mix of robust hard corals like Pectinia and Honeycomb, creating endless nooks for Common Hairy Crabs and Spotted Tobies to hide. We even got lucky once and watched a Hawksbill Turtle cruise by, oblivious to our excited gesticulations. Shore entry here is a breeze, just wade in and let the current do its gentle work, or grab a quick boat drop. We love winding through the coral heads, feeling the slight pull of the tide, just letting the reef unfold its tiny secrets.
