Tortilla - Caribbean Coast

Los Roques feels like a well-kept secret, and honestly, we hope it stays that way. Imagine the kind of Caribbean diving you always dream about but rarely find – that’s Los Roques. The visibility here is often ridiculous, sometimes pushing 40 metres, making the already healthy reefs feel even more expansive. We love drifting along the outer walls, where barrel sponges grow to impressive sizes and schools of snapper and grunt drift by in lazy formation. Keep an eye out for patrolling eagle rays in the deeper sections, and if you’re lucky, a nurse shark might be snoozing under a coral head. Our favourite dive is often a gentle drift along one of the numerous channels, where the current pulls you past walls adorned with grooved brain coral and vibrant gorgonians. It’s perfect for relaxed divers who appreciate healthy reef ecosystems over dramatic drop-offs, though those exist too. You'll spend your bottom time spotting everything from flamefish darting into crevices to curious hogfish and angelfish weaving through the coral. It’s a place for soaking in the classic Caribbean reef experience, pure and simple.
