Reef Patches, off Christmas Island, gives you exactly what the name suggests: distinct, vibrant pockets of coral rising from a sandy bottom. We love finding a site that focuses on the macro, and this one delivers. Think little nooks and crannies, each one a miniature ecosystem begging for a closer look. Our favourite trick here is to go slow, really slow. Find a patch, hover, and just watch. You'll see the frantic dance of Red Sea Half-and-half Chromis, the shy probing of Banded Cleaner Shrimp in anemones, and the methodical munching of Bicolour Parrotfish. We’ve spent solid chunks of dives just observing a single Anchor Trunkfish doing its thing. It’s perfect for photographers or anyone who appreciates the intricate details of reef life without the pressure of a wall dive. Visibility is usually superb, letting the sun dapple through the water, making the corals glow. It's a gentle dive, suited for those days when you just want to relax and soak it all in.
