52 Long Dong
Northeast Coast, Taiwan
The team at 52 Long Dong are, in our opinion, the heart of diving on Taiwan’s Northeast Coast. We’ve found their local knowledge to be second to none, making them our go-to for conditions updates and finding those lesser-dived spots. They really shine when it comes to getting new divers comfortable in the water, but they’re equally adept at guiding experienced folks to some of the area’s trickier shore entries and current-swept reefs. We love that they embrace the true nature of Northeast Coast diving – it’s often shore-based, a bit rugged, and full of surprising small critters if you know where to look. Expect surface intervals on rocky beaches, maybe sharing a thermos of tea with your guide, and the occasional strong current reminding you where you are. They’ll point out the resident moray eels peeking from crevices and the vibrant nudibranchs clinging to the rocks. Our favourite time to dive with them is late spring, when the water warms up but the summer crowds haven’t quite arrived. They really make the whole experience feel like an adventure, not just another dive trip.
