HMS Statesman - Andaman Islands

The HMS Statesman wreck in the Andamans is a proper deep dive, and one we absolutely love. It’s an S-class submarine, sunk in 1943, and she sits upright on the seabed, mostly intact, which is always a bonus. Descending onto her conning tower is a real moment. We’ve seen her swathed in schooling fusiliers, so thick they almost blot out the light, and the forward torpedo tubes are usually home to some enormous groupers just lurking in the gloom. Penetration is possible for experienced wreck divers, and we’d suggest exploring the forward sections first. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs, particularly along the deck plating; the colours are incredible against the muted steel. Currents can be tricky, especially on the surface, so a good dive guide is non-negotiable here. It’s a site for those who appreciate history and a bit of an adventure, not for a casual drift.
