Jeep Wreck - Andaman Islands
The Jeep Wreck, just off Havelock Island, is one of our favourite easy dives in the Andamans. It's a relatively young wreck, a World War II era jeep that went overboard during a storm, now resting upright at just ten metres. The shallow depth means fantastic light penetration, letting you really appreciate the way the sea has reclaimed it. It’s an ideal spot for beginners or those looking for a relaxed second dive. You can easily spend twenty minutes just circling the jeep, peering into the driver's seat where moray eels often poke their heads out. Surgeonfish and triggerfish graze on the algae growing on the chassis, and we’ve seen schools of juvenile snapper hovering above the bonnet. The way the soft corals have started to encrust the metal is quite beautiful, a vibrant contrast against the rust. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs on the smaller coral patches; they love this kind of habitat. It's a small site, but full of character, perfect for a slow, inquisitive explore.
