TRANSHURON - Lakshadweep

The Transhuron, lying just off Kiltan Island, isn’t your typical deep penetration wreck. This tanker ran aground back in '74, and most of it sits right at the surface, which is fantastic for a change. We love it because it’s a completely different kind of wreck dive. You're snorkelling more than diving, really, with the main section of the ship’s hull breaking the surface. What we found particularly cool were the massive sections of twisted metal, accessible even at 3m. Sunlight streaks through the gaps, illuminating schools of tiny baitfish that shimmer like scattered jewels. Our favourite part has to be the engine room, surprisingly intact in places, creating these shadowy caverns just below the waterline. You’ll spot parrotfish nibbling algae off the corroded steel, and we even saw a couple of small reef sharks cruising lazily through the larger openings. It's an easy dive, perfect for photographers wanting to play with light and shadow, or for newer divers keen to experience a wreck without the depth. Just watch out for the occasional surge if there’s a swell running; it can make navigating the interior a bit lively.
