MARECHIARO - Ksamil

Marechiaro in Ksamil isn't about deep dives or pelagics. It’s a shallow wreck, barely three metres down, but what a wreck it is. We love how much history you can literally reach out and touch here. This isn't just a pile of metal; it’s a tangible piece of Albania’s past, sitting upright and surprisingly intact. You’re exploring a former fishing boat, probably from the 1960s, with its mast still reaching for the surface. We've spent ages just finning around the stern, peering into the small cabin. Light filters through, illuminating schools of juvenile damselfish darting in and out of the rusted hull. Moray eels often peek from under the engine block, and we’ve spotted octopuses expertly camouflaged against the barnacle-encrusted wood. The visibility here is often fantastic, especially in the mornings before the boat traffic picks up. It’s an absolute dream for photographers, and our favourite spot for a relaxed second dive. You could easily spend an hour just circling this old girl, discovering new residents with every pass.
