CEDAR MILLS - Kornati Islands

Cedar Mills in the Kornati Islands is one of those sites we always recommend, especially for newer wreck divers or anyone looking for a relaxed, atmospheric dive. It's an old tanker, gone down in 1945, and sits upright in a very manageable 11 metres. That shallow depth means you get fantastic light penetration, really illuminating the deck and superstructure, even on an overcast day. What we love about Cedar Mills is how completely it's been taken over by the sea. The deck is carpeted in a thick growth of algae and sponges, a real tapestry of greens and browns. You'll spot schools of juvenile barracuda circling the mast, and often a few inquisitive moray eels peeking from the darker recesses. We find it's best dived in the morning, before the day boats arrive, for that quiet, contemplative feel. It's not a complex wreck; you can swim around the entire thing easily, peering into the open holds where the light slants down. Ideal for a long, slow second dive.
