PIETRO 1 - Kornati Islands

Pietro 1 isn't about grand historical drama; it's about the quiet beauty of a working boat's final resting place. This isn't a massive warship, just a small fishing vessel sitting upright at 17 metres. We love how it feels so accessible, like you could just swim down and untangle a net. The wreck itself is intact enough to give you a good sense of its original form, the wheelhouse still largely defined, and the stern section particularly photogenic. We've spent many a dive just circling, watching the light play on the hull and glint off the schools of damselfish that now call it home. You'll find scorpionfish tucked into crevices and moray eels peeking out from beneath plates of rusted metal. The real charm here is the way marine life has completely taken over – it’s a living reef in miniature, and our favourite part is always spotting the nudibranchs slowly making their way across the deck. For photographers, it’s a dream, especially in the late morning light.
