Mrduja Island Wreck - Vis & Biševo

Mrduja Island Wreck, just off Vis, is one of those sites we always try to squeeze in. It's a wooden sailing vessel, and while the exact history is a bit hazy, we reckon it’s likely centuries old. We love how time has transformed it; the planks are now a dark, almost fossilised wood, draped in sponges and soft corals. It feels like diving through a ghost story. The wreck lies in around 35 to 40 metres, meaning it's best suited for experienced divers comfortable with deeper profiles. Penetration is out, the structure is too delicate, but there’s plenty to see just circling the perimeter. Look closely and you’ll find plenty of scorpionfish tucked into crevices and moray eels peeking out from under collapsed timbers. Our favourite part is often the bow, where the outline of the vessel is still quite clear, pointing out into the blue. If you hit it on a calm day, the visibility can stretch to 30 metres, giving you a proper sense of the wreck’s scale against the open water. Go early if you can, before the boat traffic picks up.
