Wreck Brioni - Vis & Biševo

The Brioni wreck off Vis is a proper journey back in time, and we love it for that. She was a passenger steamer, built in 1909, and hit a mine in 1930. Today, she rests upright in about 50 metres, making her a serious deep dive. You descend onto the bow, which is still remarkably intact. It’s a slightly eerie feeling, dropping through the clear blue and seeing that dark shape resolve into a ship, almost like she’s just landed there. As you swim along her decks, you’ll spot all sorts of small details: the davits for the lifeboats, portholes, and the general outline of a vessel that once carried people. Inside, it’s mostly open access; the structure is still there but many of the internal fittings have long since gone. We always spend time in the engine room, a cathedral of rust and machinery. Look out for the resident moray eels and big conger lurking in the deeper recesses, and schools of small fish darting through the superstructure. This isn't a dive for the inexperienced; strong currents can appear unexpectedly, and the depth demands careful planning and gas management. But for those ready for the challenge, the Brioni is a genuinely rewarding wreck.
