Kerynia - Larnaca

The Kerynia sits in Larnaca Bay, a wooden ferry that once plied the route between Kyrenia and the mainland. It sank during a storm in 1997, and now it’s our pick for a really atmospheric dive. The wreck is broken into two main sections, the bow and stern, lying on a sandy bottom at around 22 metres. We love dropping down onto the main deck, the sunlight filtering through the gaps where the structure has collapsed, casting shifting patterns over the wooden planks. You'll find plenty of Marbled Spinefoot grazing on the algae, and we always spot a few Ornate Wrasse darting in and out of the crevices. Look closely around the scattered wreckage and you might see the delicate arms of a Soft Brittlestar tucked away. There’s a quiet, reflective feel to the Kerynia. It's a great second dive after the Zenobia, offering a more serene experience, but still with enough to explore for an hour. Keep an eye out for Studded Pufferfish hiding in the remaining nooks. It's a site that suits divers who appreciate history and a relaxed pace, with plenty of resident fish life to observe.
