VALTELLINA - Larnaca

We love a good shallow wreck, and the Valtellina delivers a surprisingly engaging dive for its depth. This old steamship, built in 1922 and scuttled in 1968, sits in just 6 metres of water, making it perfect for a long, relaxed exploration. You can spend an hour here, easily, poking around the crumpled hull plates and imagining its seafaring past. The bow section is our favourite, where you’ll find schools of damselfish flitting amongst the twisted metal, and often a few curious bream eyeing you up. We've seen moray eels tucked into crevices, too, particularly if you peer under the larger sections of plating. The light penetration is fantastic, washing over the entire site and highlighting the surprisingly vibrant growth of algae and small anemones that have colonised the wreck. It's a great spot for newer divers to get comfortable with wreck diving without any overhead environments, but experienced divers will appreciate the chance to really slow down and observe the smaller details. We’d suggest going in the morning; the water is usually calmer, and the light is just beautiful as it dances through the shallows.
