H M S Regulus - Zakynthos & Ionian Islands

The HMS Regulus, sitting off Zakynthos, is a proper chunk of history, and we love how accessible it feels. This WWII minesweeper sank in 1945, and while it’s not an intact museum piece, the scattered debris field tells a compelling story. You’ll find significant portions of the hull, some decking, and engine components spread across the seabed, creating a fascinating artificial reef. It’s an ideal spot for divers who enjoy poking around, imagining the past, and appreciating how quickly marine life reclaims man-made structures. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the metalwork, and we’ve often spotted octopus tucked into crevices. Keep an eye out for moray eels too – they find excellent hunting grounds here. The dive is generally pretty relaxed, making it a great option for those looking to explore a wreck without battling strong currents or extreme depths. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light can be beautiful, illuminating the ghostly remains.
