KATERINA - Zakynthos & Ionian Islands

The Katerina wreck on Zakynthos is a proper little time capsule. We love how shallow it sits, making it perfect for longer bottom times, really letting you soak it all in. You’ll find her upright, pretty much intact, resting in around 13 metres of water, a coaster vessel that went down sometime in the late 1980s. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the light playing across her decks, filtering through the clear Ionian water. It’s not just a steel hulk; she’s absolutely covered in sponges and anemones, a vibrant tapestry of reds, oranges, and purples. We’ve spent ages just peering into the wheelhouse, imagining the last moments, or checking out the prop at the stern, now a home for moray eels and the occasional octopus. Look out for schools of small damselfish flitting through the superstructure. It’s a gentle dive, suited to anyone comfortable with wreck penetration, even just peeking through the gaps. Our pick for an afternoon dive, when the sun angle really brings out the colours.
