KING ALEXANDER - Zakynthos & Ionian Islands

The King Alexander wreck sits upright in just 10 metres of water, a real advantage for anyone keen to spend some time exploring rather than watching the clock. We love the way the light filters through the superstructure, illuminating the schools of damselfish that dart in and out of the rusted metal. It’s a great spot for newer divers to get a feel for wreck diving without the pressure of depth, but even experienced wreckies will find plenty to hold their attention. You’ll find moray eels peeking from the engine room and octopus camouflaged against the hull plates. The bow is particularly photogenic, with its chain lockers now home to brightly coloured sponges. Our favourite part is swimming through the cargo holds, where the absence of strong currents means you can really take your time observing the small crabs and nudibranchs that have colonised every surface. It’s a gentle dive, making it ideal for longer bottom times and really soaking in the history of the place.
