COMTE DE FIANDEE - Sardinia

The *Comte de Flandre*, a Belgian cargo ship, met its end in 1943 off the coast of Sardinia. We love how accessible this wreck is, sitting upright at a comfortable 20 metres. It’s perfect for those looking to get their first taste of a proper wreck dive without pushing deep or battling strong currents. Dropping down, the ship really comes into view: stern section largely intact, bow broken. You can fin along the deck, peering into cargo holds now home to schools of small fish. We often spot moray eels tucked into crevices, their heads poking out with that characteristic grumpy stare. The metal structure, softened by years underwater, is coated in colourful sponges and small anemones. Visibility here is usually good, letting you appreciate the scale of the wreck, a silent sentinel on the sandy bottom. Go early to avoid other boats and enjoy the quiet.
