CONEGLIANO - Sardinia
We love the Conegliano for its sheer accessibility and the sense of history it delivers. This isn’t a deep, challenging wreck, but rather a sprawling, broken steamship resting at a comfortable 13 metres. What you get here is a massive debris field, not a grand, intact vessel, but that’s its charm. The stern is the most recognisable section, a jumble of twisted metal and plates, and from there the wreck spreads out like spilled toys across the seabed. You can easily spend an hour tracing the outline of what was once a 1913 merchant ship, imagining its final moments in 1943. Our favourite parts are the patches of encrusting corals that cling to the steel, splashes of orange and purple against the grey. Keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into crevices; they’re often curious. This site suits newer wreck divers or those who prefer a relaxed, shallow dive where bottom time isn't an issue. It’s perfect for extended exploration and really lets you take your time.
