COSTAZZURA - Sardinia

The Costazzura wreck in Sardinia isn't about crushing depth or huge pelagics. It’s a shallow, vibrant dive, a real favourite for us when we want something relaxed but still engaging. You’ll find the wreck of a small cargo ship, sunk in the 1960s, resting upright on a sandy bottom at just 7 metres. It’s remarkably intact for its age and depth. What we love here is the sheer amount of life that has claimed the old hull. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the superstructure, while curious ornate wrasse dart in and out of the open holds. Look closely and you’ll spot nudibranchs clinging to the metal, their colours a stark contrast to the rust. We always find moray eels peeking out from dark corners, completely unfazed by divers. It’s an easy, calm dive, ideal for photographers wanting to spend time framing shots, or for newer divers getting comfortable with wreck exploration without the pressure of strong currents or deep profiles. Go late morning, after any initial boat traffic has passed, and you often get the site mostly to yourselves.
