MARIA DEL SOCCORSO - Sardinia

The Maria del Soccorso sits at a comfortable 16 meters, making it an excellent wreck dive for most divers, even those newer to the wreck scene. This isn't one of those deep, dark technical challenges; it’s a bright, accessible exploration. We love how the relatively shallow depth means plenty of light penetrates, illuminating the wreck and the marine life that has made it home. You'll swim through open sections, the sunlight dappling the schools of damselfish that dart in and out of the rusted metal. Look closely and you’ll find moray eels peeking from crevices and the occasional scorpionfish camouflaged against the hull. Our favorite part? The stern. It’s still largely intact, offering some fantastic swim-throughs where you can really get a sense of the ship's original form. The bow is more broken up, scattered across the sandy bottom, but it's still worth a poke around for smaller critters. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light is best then, really making the blues of the Mediterranean pop against the wreck's dark silhouette. It's a genuinely atmospheric dive, a piece of history slowly being reclaimed by the sea.
