OMBRIA (POSSIBLY) - Sardinia

The Ombrina, possibly, is a wreck that really gets us talking. Not for deep dives, mind you, its maximum depth is 2m, but for sheer historical presence and the way light plays through its skeletal remains. We love surfacing from deeper dives in the area and coming here for a final, contemplative look. It’s an old fishing trawler, sunk close to shore, and while it's shallow, the sense of history is palpable. You’re exploring a metal carcass, twisted and barnacle-encrusted, with schools of juvenile damselfish flitting through the corroded sections. Sunlight dapples through the ripples above, making the whole scene shimmer. We've often found small octopus tucked into crevices, their eyes watching us with a curious intensity. It’s a photographer's dream for ambient light shots, especially in the late afternoon. For those days when you want something relaxed, full of character, and a little bit haunting, this is our pick. Just watch for occasional boat traffic, as it’s quite close to the coast.
