PALESTINIA - Sardinia

The Palestina, just off the coast of Sardinia, is a genuinely special wreck, not least because you can enjoy it without even getting your hair wet. This isn't a deep dive, it's barely a paddle, with the wreck sitting in a maximum of 2 meters of water. We love it for its sheer accessibility and the way the Mediterranean sun penetrates right through to the seabed. This steamship, sunk in 1915, is now home to an incredible amount of shallow-water marine life. Sunlight dances across the rusted hull, illuminating small schools of bream and silvery mullet flitting through the skeletal remains. You’ll see sea anemones clinging to the metal, waving their tentacles with the gentle surge, and crabs scuttling over the plates. Our favourite time to visit is early morning, before any wind picks up, when the water is like glass and the wreck feels entirely yours. It’s perfect for snorkelers, freedivers, or even just gazing down from a paddleboard, offering a vivid glimpse into history and a thriving ecosystem.
