German Lighter - Lazzaro - Ustica

The German Lighter, or Lazzaro, off Ustica, really delivers for wreck lovers. We’ve always had a soft spot for wrecks that feel genuinely part of the seabed, not just plonked there. This one lies broken but still recognisable, spread across the sand, inviting exploration. You can fin over twisted metal plates and broken beams, imagining the scale of the vessel before it met its end. What we love most here is how nature has completely taken over. It’s not about the wreck itself being intact, but the life it now supports. Schools of glinting damselfish dart in and out of the crevices, while moray eels peek from behind rusted bulkheads. Look closely, and you’ll often spot a scorpionfish perfectly camouflaged against the dark metal. We’d suggest a slow dive, taking time to peer into every nook; that’s where the real magic happens, especially around the stern section.
