Ellis Rock - Comino

Sealark Patch. Now that’s a name that doesn’t quite prepare you for what’s beneath. We’ve always found this place to be one of the Coral Sea’s quieter triumphs. It’s not about dramatic drop-offs here, but rather a sprawling, intricate coral network that just keeps giving. Drop in, and you’re immediately enveloped in a busy world. Schools of Bleeker’s Surgeonfish shimmer around the coral heads, and you’ll often spot the Cleaner Mimics diligently working. We love how the large meandroid brain corals create these mini-cities, perfect for peeking into. Keep an eye out for the Actor Coral Goby, tucked away doing its thing. If you’re lucky, really lucky, a Dugong might even cruise by, though we’ve only seen that a couple of times. It’s a site that rewards slow, observant diving, where you can really appreciate the smaller interactions. This is a fantastic spot for anyone who enjoys a leisurely drift and wants to immerse themselves in a healthy, bustling reef. Visibility here can be incredible, often pushing past 30 metres, giving you a real sense of the reef's scale even when you’re just hovering over a patch of lesser star coral. Our favourite time to dive Sealark Patch is usually mid-morning, just as the sun gets high enough to really illuminate the deeper sections without being too harsh. It's a place that reminds you why you got into diving in the first place.
