Outer Munxar Rock - Comino

Sandpiper Reef always feels like a proper Coral Sea adventure, a real open-ocean experience. We usually drop in where the reef crest starts to slope, often finding ourselves drifting gently over fields of Montipora and the most incredible Wrinkle Coral. It’s the kind of place where you look out into the blue and half expect a pelagic to cruise by. We've had School Mackerel zip past, and Honeycomb Groupers often hang out in the overhangs. What we really love here is the sheer health of the coral. The Staghorn Coral formations are dense, providing cover for Yellowstripe Scad, and if you look closely, you’ll spot Meredith's Angelfish weaving through the branches. The currents can pick up, so it's a site for confident divers, but when they're running, the visibility can be truly spectacular. Our top tip: keep an eye on the surface too; we’ve often seen Lesser Frigatebirds circling overhead, waiting for a meal.
