VERDALA - Comino

The Verdala wreck is a bit of a curveball on Comino. At a maximum depth of two metres, this isn't one for the tanks, but it’s absolutely our favourite Comino snorkel. We love how accessible it is, sitting right in the shallows near the ferry terminal. She’s a small motor vessel, maybe fifteen metres long, and lies broken up but surprisingly intact for how long she’s been down. We often spot barracuda patrolling the broken hull and the light plays beautifully through the scattered debris, illuminating schools of juvenile damselfish darting in and out. The stern section, in particular, is a nice photo opportunity, still holding some shape. For a calm day, just before sunset, the light is incredible, painting the wreck in soft blues and golds. It’s perfect for families, or anyone who fancies a gentle dip with a bit of history thrown in. Just watch out for ferry wash if you’re too close to the main channel.
