MV Xlendi - Gozo

The MV Xlendi, off Gozo's coast, isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's precisely why we love it. Originally a ferry, she sank in 1999 during a storm, splitting into three large sections on the seabed. It’s less about exploring intact cabins and more about appreciating the raw power of the ocean and how nature reclaims things. We’ve always found it a slightly melancholic dive, seeing the ferry’s remains scattered, but that’s also its charm. You'll spend your dive weaving between these substantial pieces. The bow lies upright, the stern is upside down, and the midsection is a jumble of twisted metal. It’s a fantastic spot for spotting dusky groupers, and we often see conger eels tucked away in the bigger crevices. The Devonshire cup corals and sunset cup corals bring splashes of vibrant colour to the otherwise stark metal, and we always keep an eye out for slipper lobsters hiding amongst the wreckage. Visibility here can vary, but on a good day, the light filtering through the sections is quite dramatic. It's a dive that suits those who appreciate a wreck with a story, offering plenty of nooks and crannies for curious eyes without being overly challenging. Just make sure you’re comfortable with overhead environments if you plan on poking your head into any of the larger gaps.
