P24 Patrol Boat - Gozo

The P24 Patrol Boat on Gozo is one of our favourite Mediterranean wrecks. We love a good penetration, and this one delivers. Dropped in 2007 as an artificial reef, the P24 sits upright on a sandy bottom at 20 metres, making it perfectly accessible for most divers. You can swim through the wheelhouse, the crew quarters, and the engine room – just make sure you’re comfortable with overhead environments. The light streams in through the windows, creating these fantastic shafts of light, especially on a sunny afternoon. What makes it special, though, is how quickly marine life has moved in. Schools of tiny damselfish dart in and out of the superstructure, and we’ve often seen moray eels peeking out from pipes. The soft corals are starting to bloom across the metal, adding splashes of colour. It’s a photographer’s dream, with plenty of interesting angles and chances for some moody silhouette shots. For a relatively new wreck, it feels remarkably established. We'd suggest going in the late morning; the visibility tends to be at its best then, and the light penetration through the wreck's openings is superb.
