With 116+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - Cavernas offers some of Algarve & Berlengas's richest cave diving. Water ranges 15-19°C, warmest June, October, November.
Cavernas in Algarve is exactly what it sounds like – a collection of swim-throughs and small caverns, nothing too deep, all within a 20-meter range. It’s perfect if you’re new to overhead environments, offering an easy introduction without any real challenge. Sunlight filters through cracks in the rock, illuminating the occasional school of glinting silversides. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs on the walls and maybe a curious moray eel tucked into a crevice. We’d suggest going on a calm day for the best light penetration; it really makes a difference here.
