JOSEFITA - Algarve & Berlengas
Josefita isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's exactly why we love it. This isn't some deep, technical penetration for the experienced only; Josefita is a shallow, easily accessible wreck right off the beach. You'll find it practically poking out of the water, which makes it an absolute joy for snorkelers, freedivers, and even those just dipping their toes in the world of wreck diving. We've spent hours here, just floating above the mangled metal, watching the sun play across the remains. What you're really seeing here are the ribs of an old fishing vessel, scattered over a sandy bottom. The structure, though broken, still provides shelter, and it's a bustling little ecosystem. Keep your eyes peeled for small crabs scuttling over the rust-stained beams and the iridescent flash of damselfish darting between the crevices. It’s perfect for practicing buoyancy in calm conditions, or just enjoying a relaxed afternoon exploring history without the pressure of depth. Our top tip? Head out around midday when the sun is highest; the light penetration really makes the colours pop, giving the whole site a magical glow. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, one that leaves you wanting more, not overwhelmed.
