With 116+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - Portinho da Areia Sul offers some of Algarve & Berlengas's richest reef diving. Water ranges 15-19°C, warmest June, October, November.
Portinho da Areia Sul is a straightforward dive off the Algarve coast. We've found it's a good spot for newer divers, or those looking for a relaxed afternoon. The rocky reef provides cover for smaller fish and the occasional octopus, and the shallow depths make for decent bottom times. It’s a pleasant enough dive if you're in the area, but probably not one to plan a trip around.
