Pinar 1 Wreck - Bodrum
The Pinar 1 wreck off Bodrum is a proper workhorse of a dive, and one of our favourites in the area for a reason. This coastal freighter settled upright, and with the deck at 18 metres, it’s a brilliant introduction to wreck diving without needing technical skills. We love dropping onto the bridge, the wheelhouse still largely intact, and then working our way along the superstructure. Sunlight shafts through the cargo holds, illuminating schools of small schooling fish that flutter around the frames. You can poke around the engine room if you’re comfortable with a bit of overhead, but for most divers, the exterior is engaging enough. Keep an eye out for loggerhead turtles cruising by, especially in summer; we’ve had some cracking encounters here. Ornate wrasse flit over the decks, and the Mediterranean tapeweed growing in patches adds an unexpected softness to the steel. The Pinar 1 is a great dive for anyone looking for a substantial wreck to explore, where the history of the vessel is as clear as the marine life now making it home.
