CITY OF LISBON - Northumberland & Northeast

The *City of Lisbon* is one of our absolute favourite Northumberland wrecks, particularly when we want a shallower dive without sacrificing character. At just 10 metres, it’s a proper rummage, a jumble of twisted metal and exposed ribs that tell the story of that 1903 collision with the *Douglas*. You’ll often feel the gentle surge down there, a rhythmic push and pull that enhances the wreck’s ghostly atmosphere. What we really love about this site is how approachable it is. Even though it's broken up, the sheer amount of structure still provides fantastic shelter and habitat. Keep an eye out for the resident crabs scuttling amongst the plates, and the inquisitive wrasse darting in and out of the nooks and crannies. We’ve had some cracking encounters with lobsters here too, usually tucked deep within the wreck's more intact sections. If the visibility is playing ball, which it often does on a slack tide, you can spend a good hour just exploring the debris field, imagining the steamship in its prime. It’s an ideal spot for newer wreck divers or photographers wanting to practice their skills without the pressure of depth.
