Clan MacMaster - Northumberland & Northeast
The Clan MacMaster is a proper wreck dive, the kind that digs its hooks in and makes you want to keep coming back. We love how much of the vessel is still there, not just a pile of rubble. You’ll find yourself exploring the stern with its massive propeller, still largely intact, and sections of the superstructure where you can easily picture the ship’s original layout. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, sometimes you’re gliding through 15 metres, other days it's more like a murky 5. But even when it's low, the sheer scale of the wreck makes it worthwhile, the metal looming out of the gloom. It’s a fantastic site for photographers when the light is good, the way the ambient light filters through the superstructure is dramatic. For marine life, expect to see a lot of cod and pollock hanging around the deeper sections, and we've often spotted enormous edible crabs tucked into crevices. Take your time around the bow, there’s a surprising amount of detail still present there, and we’d suggest a good dive light to really pick out the features. This isn't a beginner's wreck, you need decent buoyancy and a cool head for the occasional stronger current, but for experienced wreck enthusiasts, it’s a classic Northumberland favourite.
