COLORADO - Northumberland & Northeast

The COLORADO isn't your deep, dramatic wreck dive, and that's exactly why we love it. This isn't a site for hitting depth or ticking off big pelagics. Instead, it’s a brilliant shore dive, sitting in barely a metre of water. You'll find the remains of a sailing vessel, sunk back in 1908, spread across the seabed. Think twisted metal, a few ribs, and scattered timbers that have become home to a fascinating array of critters. We’ve spent hours here, nose-to-glass, spotting tiny blennies peeking from crevices and crabs scuttling amongst the plates. The sheer amount of life that colonises such a shallow, accessible wreck is genuinely surprising. It’s perfect for macro photographers who enjoy a slow, contemplative dive, or for anyone wanting to hone their buoyancy in a sheltered spot. Come at high tide for the best visibility, especially on a calm day; the water can get a bit stirred up otherwise. It’s an easy entry, just a short walk, making it our pick for a relaxed afternoon exploring maritime history and the miniature world it now supports.
