CONSTANCE - Northumberland & Northeast

The Constance, sitting upright at 45 metres, isn't just another lump of metal on the seabed. She's a time capsule, a steamship that went down in 1917, and her character really shines through. We love dropping down onto her deck, the bow still proud, stern mostly intact. You can fin around her superstructure, poke your head into the holds if you're feeling adventurous – just watch your silt. This wreck is a haven for the resident fish. Expect to see cod lurking in doorways, massive shoals of saithe circling the mast, and plenty of those grumpy-looking anglerfish tucked into nooks. The currents can pick up here, so we always plan our dive for slack water; it makes exploring the bridge area much more enjoyable. It’s a dive for those comfortable with deeper wrecks and a bit of chill, but the rewards are well worth the goosebumps. Bring a good torch; there’s always something interesting hiding in the shadows.
