DAGMAR - Northumberland & Northeast

Dagmar isn't for everyone. Let's be clear, this isn't a deep blue wreck dive. This is a shallow, often challenging, but utterly rewarding experience for those who appreciate history and don't mind getting salty. We’re talking about an iron sailing vessel, grounded back in 1886. At just 2 metres deep, you’re often diving in surge, feeling the push and pull of the North Sea. But that's part of its charm. Visibility can be hit or miss, but when it’s good, the structure of the Dagmar comes alive. We love how the strong iron frames are completely encrusted with mussels and barnacles. You’ll find crabs tucked into every crevice, and small blennies darting between the plates. It’s a photographer’s dream if you’re patient and can work with the movement. Our favourite time to dive Dagmar is on a slack high tide, just after a period of calm weather. It cleans the water up beautifully. Don't expect dramatic swim-throughs, but there's a real sense of exploring a relic, feeling the history beneath your fingertips. It’s a dive that genuinely transports you back in time.
