DIETER - Northumberland & Northeast

The Dieter is a proper little wreck, and we’re quite fond of her. Sunk back in ’89 after a bump with the Irish FV Bydand, she’s a compact 15-meter fishing vessel, sitting upright and mostly intact at a friendly 6 meters. We’d suggest hitting her on a slack tide, otherwise, you’ll be fighting a surprising push for such a shallow dive. What makes the Dieter a standout for us isn't her size, it’s the character she’s developed over the decades. You’ll find the wheelhouse still present, offering easy swim-throughs where you can poke around inside. The decks are a carpet of plumose anemones, their frilly white tentacles swaying with the gentle surge, and we always spot a few squat lobsters tucked into crevices. If you bring a torch, you can illuminate the deeper reds of nudibranchs clinging to the metalwork. This site is brilliant for newer wreck divers or photographers wanting a relaxed, rewarding shot without deep commitments. It's a proper gentle introduction to North Sea wreck diving, without the usual depth or current drama.
