DOODLE - Northumberland & Northeast

Doodle is one of our picks for a cracking Northumberland wreck dive. Sunk back in '70, this yacht settled upright on a sandy seabed at 15 metres. We love that it’s still remarkably intact, which makes for a really satisfying exploration. You can swim through parts of the superstructure, poking around nooks and crannies where we’ve often found lobsters hunkering down. The wreck itself isn't huge, but its smaller size means it’s quickly become home to a surprisingly dense community of marine life. Wrasses dart through the gaps, and the metalwork is completely encrusted with plumose anemones, especially on the deeper sections – they create a soft, feathery curtain. We’ve also seen juvenile cod hovering around the stern. It's a great site for newer wreck divers because of the relatively shallow depth and usually mild currents, but there’s enough character here to keep more experienced divers happy too. Dive it at slack water for the best visibility; the sand can kick up easily.
