DORIS B - Northumberland & Northeast

The DORIS B is a feisty little wreck, and we love her for it. She's a steel-hulled trawler, only 12.8m long, that decided to flip on her side in 1995 after snagging some gear. Now she rests in 30m, fully inverted, which makes for a fascinating dive. The stern is our favourite spot, often lifting slightly from the seabed, creating a swim-through that’s just begging to be explored. You’ll find her festooned with plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently in the current, alongside a surprisingly robust community of wrasse and blennies darting in and out of the nooks and crannies. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, like much of the North Sea, but on a good day, when the light penetrates, the sight of those anemones is genuinely striking. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack water; the currents can pick up, making the exploration of the upside-down hull a bit more challenging. This isn't a wreck for beginners, but for divers with a bit of experience who appreciate the character of a working boat now repurposed as an artificial reef, the DORIS B delivers a rewarding and unique dive experience. Just be mindful of the "dangerous wreck" classification – she’s compact, but always treat wrecks with respect.
