ELIZABETH DAL - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Elizabeth Dal* isn’t about depth or vibrant corals. This is a shallow wreck, only 5m down, right off Beadnell. What you get here is pure drama and a surprisingly thriving ecosystem. We love how accessible it is, perfect for multiple dives or for those looking for a longer bottom time without the deco stress. The ship broke up in 1979, so it’s less of a defined vessel and more a jumble of twisted metal, beams, and plates, spread across the seabed. It’s absolutely fantastic for poking around; every crack and crevice seems to have some creature making a home. Look out for the nudibranchs – we’ve seen some incredible colours here, especially in late spring. Crabs, lobsters, and blennies are everywhere. The light penetrates easily, even on a cloudy day, illuminating the rust-coloured wreckage. It feels like an archaeological dig, discovering fragments of its past. We’d suggest a calm day to really enjoy it without the surge bouncing you around. It’s a site that proves you don't need a deep blue abyss for an engaging dive.
