ELLA - Northumberland & Northeast

The Ella, a lighter vessel that foundered while under tow in 1938, lies at a comfortable 16 meters, making it a solid choice for a Northumberland wreck dive. We usually find her fairly intact for a wreck of her age, though time and the North Sea have certainly done their work. She's a good size at 38 meters long, with plenty of hull structure to poke around, often with schools of coalfish darting through the darker sections. Look out for the resident crabs and lobsters tucked into the nooks, and the occasional dogfish patrolling the sandy seabed nearby. It's a dive that offers a genuine feel for maritime history without demanding extreme depth or conditions.
