EUREKA VI - Northumberland & Northeast
The *Eureka VI* is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to in the Northeast, particularly when we want a shallow, relaxing dive. She’s a old dredger, 30 metres long, sitting upright at just 8 metres, an ideal depth for extending your bottom time and really getting to know her. You can cruise along her decks, peer into the holds, and imagine the work she once did. The hull is now absolutely covered in plumose anemones, their feathery tentacles swaying with the gentle surge. Look closer amongst them, and you’ll often find some decent sized crabs scuttling about, or a curious little blenny poking its head out from a crevice. It’s a site that feels a bit like diving a large, open-air aquarium sometimes. We’d always suggest timing your dive for slack water; the currents here can pick up, making it a bit less enjoyable to explore the detail. Visibility, like much of the UK, is variable, but on a good day, you can get a good 8-10 metres, which is plenty to take in the whole ship. It’s a fantastic spot for newer wreck divers to get comfortable, or for photographers who want to spend time composing shots of the anemone-covered superstructure without worrying about gas or deco. The *Eureka VI* might not have dramatic swim-throughs, but her character, accessibility, and the life she now hosts make her a standout in our logbooks.
