FB 118 (POSSIBLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

The FB 118, or ‘Possibly’ as we often call it, is one of those deeper North Sea wrecks that makes you work for it, but delivers a proper reward. Dropping to 39 metres, you’ll find the remains of a barge, intentionally scuttled by the Mersey Docks & Harbour Board. It’s a sturdy wreck, surprisingly intact for its age and the environment, with the hull largely upright. We love nosing around the cargo holds, which are now excellent hideouts for plump lobsters and enormous edible crabs. Visibility here can be a real lottery, so pick your weather window carefully – slack water and a calm forecast are your friends. When it’s good, the structure of the barge is quite stark against the seafloor, and the sheer number of plumose anemones clinging to every surface is genuinely impressive; they create this soft, feathery covering that sways gently with the surge. This is a dive for experienced cold-water wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the quiet solitude of a less-frequented site. Don't expect tropical colours, but do expect a proper, atmospheric dive.
