FB 275 (POSSIBLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

The FB 275, affectionately known as 'Possibly' by those who've found her, is a proper chunk of history resting upright at 39 meters off the Northumberland coast. We’re talking about a former Mersey Docks & Harbour Board barge, unceremoniously dumped here decades ago. What makes her standout isn’t a dramatic story, but the sheer scale and solid structure of the wreck. You descend onto a vast, flat deck, often swarming with inquisitive cuckoo wrasse and shoals of juvenile pollack darting through the superstructure. Our favourite part is the way light filters through the framework on a sunny day, illuminating the dense plumose anemones that coat every surface. It feels less like a wreck and more like a purpose-built artificial reef, absolutely buzzing with life. Keep an eye out for resident ling tucked into crevices and the occasional wolf fish lurking in the deeper shadows. Visibility can be a typical North Sea lottery, but catch it on a good day and the sheer size of the barge reveals itself, offering plenty of nooks and crannies for a pair of divers to explore. This site is best for experienced cold-water wreck divers comfortable with depth and variable conditions.
